The 7 Days Rwanda Gorilla and Chimpanzee tracking experience involves a visit to the two major destinations, which allows visitors to engage in the two unique tourist activities in Rwanda, that include gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National park (PNV) and chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park, combined to generate a remarkable safari experience. The safari incorporates the unique Nyungwe canopy walk which happens to be the first of its kind in East Africa and the third in Africa, chilly evenings on the shores of Lake Kivu- largest lake in Rwanda and the tour to the Rwandan Institute of Museums in Butare and a visit to the popular Gisozi genocide memorial site to pay tribute to the counts of Rwandese that lost their lives during genocide that befell Rwanda in 1994.

Day 1 Arrival at the airport in Kigali

Upon, your arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be met and greeted by our safari driver guide, who will brief you about the preparations of the safari and later drive to to your pre-booked accommodation in Kigali.

Day 2 Transfer to Volcanoes national park, via Gisozi genocide centre

Upon taking a warm breakfast at your place of stay in Kigali city, embark on the journey to Gisozi genocide memorial site to visit and pay tribute to the counts of Rwandese who lost their dear lives during the unforgettable era of genocide that befell Rwanda in the year 1994. The empty skulls that are paraded in the building with the respective details may bring in tears in eyes as well as fresh memories of what exactly transpired during that fateful era. After this encounter, you will enjoy a luxurious lunch in Kigali and then embark on a journey to Volcanoes National Park which is 116km approximately 3 hours’ drive.
This journey allows you to have the opportunity to view the romantic gentle hills of the country side marked with rolling rural farmlands presenting an ideal chance for scenic photographs.
You will get to Ruhengeri in the evening for entertainment and relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3 Gorilla trekking and Ibyiwachu cultural village tour.

In the morning at 7:30am, you will assemble at the park headquarters for a briefing in the morning together with your trekking gears and drinking water and packed lunch.
After briefing you will begin the trekking. The trek can be quite tough that it takes a lot of time usually 2-8 hours and it requires a minimum level of physical fitness to make the entire encounter with these unique species an unusual experience. The hike amidst the jungle while viewing the lovely Rwandan flora and fauna, the impressive panoramic views and magical scenic landscapes of the Virungas will surely leave you astonished. The 1 hour direct contact with the world’s rarest animals is worth remembering and getting attracted to their beautiful fur while being entertained by the playful young gorillas puts your minds and thoughts into a state of relaxation and calmness.
Return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. Dedicate your evening to paying a visit to the Ibyiwachu Cultural Village and explore Rwanda’s cultural heritage, through traditional performances, folk songs, skits, storytelling among other practices.

Day 4 Transfer to Lake Kivu for relaxation

Leave Volcanoes national park and transfer to Lake Kivu; arrive in mid-morning. Grab a cup of cold drink and re wind at the sand beaches. Lake Kivu is the most popular and largest lake in Rwanda – home to various water activities and a center of recreation and adventure.
Undertake speed boat rides, sun bathing, and beach sports, among other activities. Retire in the evening and relax at the lodge.

Day 5 Travel to Nyungwe national park & Canopy walk

In the morning, transfer from Lake Kivu to Nyungwe national park via the scenic Congo-Nile drive. Arrive just in time for lunch and relax at the lodge.
In the afternoon, embark on the unique Canopy walk at Uwinka, the Nyungwe forest Canopy walk gives visitors a great opportunity to experience the rain forest with the canopy walk way challenge.
Built in 2010, this walk way is embedded in a specialized guided tour sloping down from the Uwinka visitor’s center through the Igishigishi trail. The trail takes approximately 30minutes to get to the starting point of the canopy allowing visitors to walk slowly in a steep slippery valley.
Return in the evening for Dinner and overnight

Day 6 Chimpanzee trekking in the morning & nature walks

After Breakfast, encounter the playful chimpanzees in their nests in Nyungwe forest, and track them, enjoy their movements, habits and learn more about conserving the chimpanzees in Rwanda. Retire after this rather interesting activity and get back to the Lodge for lucnch before you head out for the Nyungwe nature / forest walk in the afternoon. This walk is a rewarding adventure allowing you to spot numerous species that reside here. Residents here include a myriad of primates such as monkeys, baboons, small mammals like bush pigs, forest elephants, and countless species of birds and abundant flora.
Retreat from the forest in the evening, and relax at the lodge.

Day 7 Transfer to Kigali city

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive from Nyungwe Forest National Park to Kigali with en route visit to Nyanza king’s palace, Butare national museum.
Explore the king’s palace in Nyanza, the residence for the two Rwandan monarchs; king Musinga and his predecessor, king Rudahigwa. The traditional hut at the site which is the house of King Rudahigwa was crafted in an attractive traditional architectural design with authentic Rwandan cultural touch which is well preserved. The charming Inyambo royal cows with their long horns also add a great meaning to the site worth visiting.
You will have en route lunch and proceed to Kigali city for overnight stay or departure flight.
