This 1 Day Mabamba Birding excursion is a whole day birding experience. It suits mostly those on a day break and a hide away from the towns of Kampala and Entebbe. The excursion begins and ends in Kampala; giving a whole day amazing encounter with the wetland ecology on the banks of Africa’s largest lake; Lake Victoria. It is a habitat for numerous species of birds which include; the Vulnerable and rare shoebill stork. The swamp dwelling sitatunga is also common here. The famous Mabamba swamp presents an impressive birding experience on a canoe.
After breakfast, you embark on the drive from your place of stay in Kampala to Mabamba wetland, a journey of 50km from Kampala the capital of Uganda. The drive to Mabamba is a special experience availing up to 100% opportunities of exploring numerous bird species like Papyrus Gonolek, White Shouldered Tit, Red Cap, Western Banded Snake Eagle, White Winged Warbler, White Spotted Fluftail and Weyns Weaver.
Upon arrival in Mabamba wetland, engage in a thrilling canoe experience and head to the swamp under the guidance of a local expert in paddling through the narrow water channels surrounded by dense and lush swamp flora. The swamp presents numerous species of birds including the elusive and the Vulnerable Shoebill stork, the Allen’s and Purple Gallinule, Grey herons, Jacanas, Ruffaus Squaco, the globally threatened Pallid Harrier and Bellied Heron. Other species like blue swallow, ducks and egrets among other birds can be explored. The swamp dweller, Sitatunga antelope may be seen during this swamp tour. You have picnic lunch and then return to Kampala / Entebbe and arrive in the evening for overnight stay or return flight.
