This 4 days adventure in Volcanoes national park begins and ends in Kigali city. The tour exposes you to the historical Dian Fossey Grave and a visit to the elusive golden monkeys. The scenery in the shadow of the volcanoes is one of the most breathtaking in Africa. On the 3rd day, you will carry out the Dian Fossey grave hike within the same national park.


Day 1 City tour and Transfer to Volcanoes national park

You will be picked up by our experienced Rwandan Guide from your Hotel in Kigali and have a simple short tour in Africa’s cleanest city, Kigali. Discover one of the renowned ancient architecture, monuments, and areas of interests, culture, food and people. After this excursion, continue on a transfer to Parc National Des Volcans which is found in the northern province of the country. This national park is famous for being home to the rare mountain gorillas that have inhabited the park for centuries as well as the elusive golden monkeys. Upon arrival, transfer to your place of accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 Golden Monkey tracking in volcanoes national park

After breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters and get briefing from the guides, and then off to your adventure to meet the Golden Monkeys in Parc National Des Volcans. Your guide will take you through the thick jungles on a trail that may last between 1-7 hours, when you finally meet the golden monkeys, you will spend one hour with them, watching them and taking photographs. Return to the lodge for relaxation and if time allows, pay a visit to the Iby’Iwachu cultural village in the evening for an authentic cultural experience.

Day 3 Hike to the Dian Fossey grave<br />

Have a beautiful morning breakfast and head out for a hike to Dian Fossey grave. She is an American primatologist who devoted her life and time in protecting the lives of mountain gorillas in the Virunga region, especially Volcanoes national park. As a way of commemorating her good work done, she was buried next to her most beloved gorilla, DIGIT. While here, you will learn more about the wonderful history of Dian Fossey, her institute – Karisoke research institute and later drive back to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.
Depending on the available time, you may go for evening nature walk in the forest, or visit the scenic twin lakes and appreciate the natural beauty of Rwanda.

Day 4 Transfer to Kigali for city tour

Have a well prepared breakfast at your lodge in Musanze, and embark on the journey to Gisozi genocide memorial site in the outskirts of Kigali city; visit and pay tribute to the counts of Rwandese who lost their dear lives during the unforgettable era of genocide that befell Rwanda in the year 1994. The empty skulls are paraded in the building with the respective details, a sorrowful experience that may fill your eyes with tears while at the same time bringing fresh memories of what exactly transpired during that fateful era. In the evening, continue to the interior of the city to tour some of its historical sites and admire the serenity and neatness of Africa’s cleanest city. Catch up with an evening departure flight or overnight stay at the lodge in Kigali.
